Conflict of Interest Policy
The C. F. Adams Charitable Trust is committed to an ethic of accountability and transparency. It is sensitive to conflicts of interest and/or the appearance of such conflicts that can result from a trustee's or employee's business or personal interests. The following general principles have been adopted by the trustees to recognize conflicts of interest when they arise and to guard against self-dealing in fact or in perception:
Trustees and employees shall disclose any personal or business involvement with an organization with which the Trust is considering a grant request or business contract.
The individual disclosing the existence of a conflict of interest should be mindful of standards of confidentiality and should not use his/her personal influence in the matter. He/she shall provide relevant information to the other trustees when knowledge regarding the matter will assist the work of the Trust.
The individual disclosing the existence of a conflict of interest should excuse himself/herself from the final deliberations and voting on the matter under consideration.
The minutes of the meeting should reflect that the conflict of interest was disclosed and that the interested person recused himself/herself from the final discussion and did not vote.
